Prerequisite: Continuing-Beginner Class
Do you want to move beyond beginner songs without getting too complicated? This experiential class steers clear of theory by using 12-bar blues as an applied playground. Alternate chord shapes are learned from boogie-woogie bass lines. Individual notes are learned from familiar blues licks and a few easy duets. Basic strumming patterns are reviewed with new strumming techniques added weekly. We’ll end each class will a brief look at an historically important ukulele player. ”Ah-hah” moments guaranteed; epiphanies probable. Sing amen sister!
Consider taking the Intermediate Level-1 class if you 1) took the Continuing-Beginner class and really enjoyed it 2) feel confident changing between most of the Continuing-Beginner chords 3) would like to do a little more work on strumming 4) want to learn simple melody 5) are curious about other kinds of common chords 6) enjoy learning by doing rather than thinking about theory 7) prefer variety in your next learning experience versus focusing exclusively on fingerpicking or strumming
TECHNICAL FOCUS: Each class meeting is divided into 3 equal segments: chords, melody, and strumming. The chords segment covers most types of 3 & 4-note chords, including closed shapes. The melody segment covers notes for frets 1 through 4. The strumming segment reviews 10 basic patterns and adds 3 new techniques plus dynamics.
