See also “Local Strum Clubs”. Many of them perform.

Mad City Ukes

Mad City Ukes is a vibrant community of ukulele players whose singing and strumming quickly draw the audience into the joy of music.  Established in 2011, the group plays music from the 1920s, vintage rock, modern pop and more.  We rehearse weekly and perform at locales in Dane County and surrounding areas.  Please contact us if you are interested in joining the group or having us perform.  We enjoy playing for community organizations, holiday parties, retirement communities, social occasions, weddings, luncheons, art fairs, farmer's markets and festivals such as BeatleFest and Make Music Madison.  We would love a chance to bring our music to you.

The Sunshine Sisters

The Sunshine Sisters (Bev and Sheila) play duets with ukulele accompaniment. They perform in area senior centers and assisted-living facilities, sharing old familiar songs; some country and folk; and uplifting songs of love, memories, and the journey of life.

Front Porch String Band

The Front Porch String Band is a group of six musicians and vocalists (Bev, Carol, Linda, Nancy, Nike, and Dusty) who play a wide variety of pop, rock, and folk favorites. They're known for their fun-loving style, sweet harmonies, and audience inclusion. Ukes, banjolele, u-bass, percussion, flute, and melodica create a rich background for their vocals. They bring music and fun to public and private events, including fundraisers, reunions, and farmers' markets. Audiences love to join in - tapping their feet, singing along, and sometimes dancing!

3 Ukes And A Bass

“3 Ukes and a Bass” is a fun-loving quartet sharing the joy of ukulele; blending vocal harmonies punctuated by a variety of instruments; and offering inventive cover versions of familiar songs, from classic country, oldies, and folk, to contemporary pop. Members are: Wendy Smith, Marcia Standiford, Dustin (Dusty) Thompto, and Christy Kirchmiller. You can find them playing at events, farmer's markets, and open mics in the greater Madison area.

Old Lady And Her Uke

An Old Lady and Her Uke (Mary Welch) was gifted a ukulele in 2017, joined some strum clubs and then began doing solo shows in 2020. She has performed at coffee shops, farmers markets, open mics, senior centers, ukulele benefit concerts, and Make Music Madison. Covering a variety of country, folk, and blues, she adds her own twist to both familiar and lesser-known songs. Sharing music with others, growing herself as a musician, and meeting wonderful people has kept her intrigued with the world of ukulele!

People with Strings

People With Strings is a group of six (Mary Welch, Christie Kirchmiller, Cathy Chenoweth, Greg Lampe, Pete Cavi, Dusty Thompto) who met playing Ukulele and said “Let’s make a band!” Though they all wanted dibs on the ukulele, they have  added additional instruments to their sound. With four singers, sometimes together, sometimes solo, they cover an eclectic mix of songs. Leaning towards the Americana, Country, Bluegrass and Folk genres with some Classic Rock thrown in, you might hear a toe-tappin’ jug band tune or a country crooner ballad.
